THE OSEMAN VERSE BOOK TAG!

Untitled_Panorama1.jpg
It’s time for another edition of ‘I don’t know what to post and I’m in a slump so here’s a book tag!’ Ok, but in my defence, the lovely Layla recently created this tag and it’s just so good that I knew we had to take part! It has also inspired us to try out creating our own tag so keep an eye out for that! Fan art credits will be linked at the end of the post! So without further ado, here’s our answers –

[A Character You Love That Overcame Something Huge]

A: So a lot of my favourite characters have overcome something so this was really difficult but I went for my first thought which is Inej from the Six of Crows duology. If you know her story, you know what she had to endure before she became the Wraith and I’m just so proud of her.
B: I’m going to go with Lei in Girls of Paper and Fire. This series focuses heavily on abuse and seeing Lei’s transformation throughout the first two books is amazing!

Rowan Omondi
[Favourite Protective Character]

A: Ok, so imagine doing a tag and not mentioning The Book Thief. For this, I’m choosing Hans Hubermann because it’s just something about a father/daughter dynamic that gets me and he was the most amazing father, friend and protector to Liesel and their relationship ruined my life.
B: I struggled with this one but I’m going to pick Brimstone from Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It’s not until later in the series that you see all he did for Karou and it’s definitely something that always makes me tear up a bit.

[Character That Oozes Charm]

A: For this, my thoughts immediately went to Evelyn Hugo and need I say more? She was a Hollywood star and I fell in love her when reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. She is goals.
B: Since it’s one I’ve read recently, I’m going to say Lou from Serpent and Dove. She’s easily likeable both from the perspective of the reader and other characters (even when most are determined to hate her).

Angel Rahimi
[Book You’re The Most Passionate About]

A: As much as I want to choose The Book Thief again, I’m gonna change it up and say The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. This sci-fi novel is so different and diverse compared to most other and is extremely underrated in my opinion. I shout about it as much as I can (and the series as a whole) in the hopes more people will pick it up. Definitely recommend if you’re into diverse, sci-fi books with amazing character development.
B: Is it going to surprise anyone if I say Other Words For Smoke? Hmm, probably not.

[Favourite Bookish OTP]

A: Cue me upsetting a lot of people and causing a civil war but my OTP has always been Harry/Hermione. Do not fight me. Do not @ me. Accept it ok.
B: Why can I not think of anything for this when I used to have such strong feelings about my OTPs? Is it cliche to go with Feyre and Rhys?

Tori Spring
[Most Mysterious Book You’ve Read]

A: For this, I’m going to choose one of my favourite reads in 2018 – The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell. This is a super creepy, mysterious read featuring a house filled with silent companions – wooden figures that mysteriously resemble real life people and have a habit of moving around the house by themselves.
B: I don’t read a tonne of horror/mystery, so I’m going to go with one I have read recently – After the Eclipse by Fran Dorricott. Not only was the mystery a part of the plot but it also had a spooky, mysterious atmosphere!

[Favourite Book That Brings You Joy]

A: As this is an Alice Oseman book tag, I’d have to pick the Heartstopper series by her. This follows Nick and Charlie who develop feelings for each other over the course of the graphic novels and eventually fall in love. It’s so cute, features characters from her previous books and although only two have been published so far, we’re set for a few more!
B: This was quite a hard one as apparently I only read heartbreaking books? But I’m going to go with Muse of Nightmares. For me, it was the perfect ending to the Strange the Dreamer duology and all of the characters are just so pure and need protecting so they can be happy forever.

Nellie
[Favourite Book to Snuggle Up With]

A: I actually love to snuggle up with a nice little horror/thriller/mystery book. Although I haven’t read any of note this year, I’m excited to snuggle up with His Hideous Heart, Return to the Dyatlov Pass by J.H. Moncrieff, The Migration by Helen Marshall and Soon by Lois Murphy next month.
B: I mean, you’ll usually find me cosied up under a pile of blankets when I’m reading. So can I say any book?

[A Book That Helped You Get Through a Rough Time]

A: For this, I’d have to choose both Before I Die by Jenny Downham and The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. They both came to me during a time of grief and helped me in their own ways. For this, they’ll always have a special place in my heart.
B:
I can’t think of a book that I specifically relate to getting me through a rough time, but a book I always go back to for comfort is Deathless – despite it, you know, not being a comforting book at all…

Frances Janvier
[A Character With Tons of Determination]

A: Perhaps a very cliche answer but I’m gonna have to choose Harry Potter. He went through some shit and lost so much and kept fighting for himself and the ones he loved. See me protecting that boy to my dying breath. Another honourable mention is Nina Zenik who still inspires me to this day with her determination.
B: Vasya in the Winternight trilogy! Throughout all three books she basically doesn’t care what anyone else tells her she can and can’t do and is more focussed on going down her path to save her country and protect her family.

We tag Amy, Cerys and Audrey!

Lots of Love,
Angharad & Becky
